Dressing §Care should be taken while cutting plies [avoid deep cutting] §While cutting the top and bottom cover rubber along with ply, an angle of 45º should be given. §Remove the cover rubber and ply layers one after other. §Remember step cutting should be done in the following manner: Tail End Side – top to be dressed. Head End Side – bottom to be dressed. Alignment of Belt Ends: Align both the belt ends as follows: §The centre line of both the belt ends are to be aligned in the same line. §Both the reference lines are parallel to each other. §The splice length should be maintained at both ends. §Clamp the belt rigidly in such a way that it can easily opened <(>&<)> closed. Buffing: §Any projection or loose particles should be removed from the spliced surface. §While buffing ply should not get damaged /rubber on the ply should not be melted. §Bevel portion should be done with twisted wire brush §The buffed (dressed) surface should be clean, rough, level and dry. Application of Solution: §Consumption of Solution <(>&<)> Hardener vFor 1M² of closed area require2Ltrs.of Solution <(>&<)> 2 Bottles of Hardener. §Apply 1st coat on both belt ends and allow it to dry completely [Drying time = 45 Mins. To 1 Hr.] §Apply 2nd coat [Final coat] on both belt ends and allow it to dry. Check with back side of finger, if there is a slight stickiness / tackiness then it can be closed [both belt ends] [Drying time = 15 - 20 Mins.]. §In heavy duty belts, because of coarse size of fabric, a third coating is required [wherever third coating is applied, second coating should be fully dried]. Closing <(>&<)> Hammering: While overlapping step by step, a hand pressing is required to remove the entrapped air from the steps and each step should be monitored to avoid overlapping. Once both the ends are overlapped, a 150mm channel piece should be inserted under the belt [in jointing area] and hammering should be done from center of the belt to both the edges without leaving any gap. In this process, total entrapped air will be escaped from the joint area. FINAL INSPECTION: In the cutting portion, if there is any overlap or gap the same should be buffed off or fill it off in both the sides so that no scraper will lift the joint while running. h.
