Work Detail

Museum-Exhibition Services – Exhibition Design Cap Arcona Documentation Center. At The End Of The Second World War, The Bay Of Lübeck And The City Of Neustadt In Holstein Were The Scene Of An Unprecedented Tragedy In The Context Of The Dissolution Of The National Socialist Concentration Camps. As One Of The Last Retreat Areas In The German Reich Not Yet Occupied By The Allies, Schleswig-Holstein Became The Target Of Death Marches In Which The Ss Deported Thousands Of Concentration Camp Prisoners On Foot, By Train Or By Ship. The Largest Concentration Of Prisoners Took Place On Ships In The Bay Of Lübeck And Was Unique In This Form. The Bombing Of These Ships, Especially The “Cap Arcona”, Led To A Maritime Disaster On May 3, 1945, In Which More Than 7,100 People Died. The Murder Of Several Hundred Prisoners From The Stutthof Am Ufer Concentration Camp In Neustadt Was Another Part Of The Tragedy - A Few Hours Before The British Army Occupied And Liberated Neustadt. Since The Bodies Of The Victims Washed Up In Numerous Places Along The Bay Of Lübeck, Numerous Cemeteries And Memorials Were Created In Schleswig-Holstein And Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In Recent Years, A Lively Culture Of Commemoration And Remembrance Has Developed Here, Based On Civic Engagement And Characterized By Cross-Border And International Cooperation. The Cemetery Of Honor On Neustädter Strand, Inaugurated In 1948, Is Still The Site Of A Central Commemoration Ceremony For The Victims Of The Cap Arcona Disaster Every Year, In Which Survivors And Their Descendants And Relatives Of Victims From Many Countries Take Part. With The Cap Arcona Documentation Center In Downtown Neustadt, The City Of Neustadt In Holstein Will Create A Contemporary Place Of Commemoration, Remembrance And Learning That Will Focus On The Events Of May 3, 1945 And That Will Do Justice To The Historical And International Dimensions Of What Happened . In Addition To The Described Context Of The Final Phase Of The War, These Are The High Number Of Victims, The International “Prisoner Society”, The Long-Standing Different Culture Of Commemoration And Remembrance In East And West Germany, And The Great Importance For The Descendants Of The Victims From Many Countries. The Construction Of The New Documentation Center With 300 Square Meters Of Permanent Exhibition Space And Other Usable Areas Replaces The Museum Cap Arcona, Which Has Existed Since 1990 And Is Only 40 Square Meters In Size And Is Not Barrier-Free, As An Extension To The City History Museum Zeittor. The Subject Of This Tender Is The Development, Planning And Implementation (In Accordance With The Hoas Service Profile, New Version 2022) Of The Permanent Exhibition In The Yet-To-Be-Built Documentation Center, The Proper Setup Of A Special Exhibition Room And Group Work Room, An Accompanying Media Guide, A Corporate Identity (Ci)/Graphic Concept And Of Information Boards To Upgrade And Expand The Information Offerings In Public Spaces In Neustadt In Holstein.
